Custom Stone Patio Built for a Backyard Retreat

Some backyards just have potential written all over them. The kind of space where you can picture exactly what it should feel like - open, clean, comfortable, and completely yours. That's the kind of project we love getting our hands on.

Here's what we were working with: a modern backyard tucked between a beautiful cedar-clad structure and a warm horizontal cedar fence. The bones were already strong. Our job was to create a hardscape that matched the quality and character of everything around it. So we laid out a wide, flat stone patio surface that extends cleanly from the structure outward, with a stepping stone path that carries the layout further into the yard.

The stone surface itself sits low and level, with tight joints and a smooth, walkable finish - exactly what you want when barefoot season rolls around. We set the plantings into fresh dark mulch beds on either side of the path, which gives the whole yard a crisp, finished look right from the start. Ground covers are already tucking in nicely along the edges.

This kind of work takes more than just laying stone. It's landscape design and landscape construction working together. The layout has to make sense for how the space gets used. The materials have to hold up. And every detail - from the path alignment to the planting placement - has to feel intentional. That's what we focus on with every residential landscaping project we take on.
